Today's reality is that most of us will go through six or eight complete career or business changes in our lifetime;  the average length of each being around five or six years.  Meaning, you "make your money" in that period or you don't make it at all.

Take the business cycles time today:  The stage of START - GROWTH - MATURATION -  SATURATION - DECLINE,  use to take 5,  10. maybe 20 years.  Now your business could become a dinosaur in five years or less!

Develop a new TV show and see how long it takes before someone knocks it off or improves it.  If you get six months, you're lucky!  Look at the internet today, if you have a website you have to know how to market online and off to to stay ahead of the market.  Without the right marketing how much money will you send getting nowhere.  If you were popular last year you are not this year.
